Native Americans and Alaska Natives are known to have significantly increased rates of abuse and drug addiction than other ethnicities, an a situation which must be aknowledged for these cultures to survive. Although the things which trigger substance abuse may vary from person to person, most of the factors for the significantly higher rates of substance abuse amongst Native American and Alaska Natives related to their culture. First of all, Native American and Alaska Native adolescents have some of the highest rates of drug and alcohol abuse in the nation. The most apparent obstacles to treating Native Americans and Alaska Natives for drug addiction are cultural differences and language. Due to this it is crucial that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in Rosebud, South Dakota obtain rehab treatment in a drug rehabilitation center that is understanding of their culture, but most importantly in one that understand the need to offer drug rehabilitation in their language.
