Native Americans and Alaska Natives are known to have significantly increased rates of abuse and addiction than other races, an a circumstance which must be aknowledged for these cultures to endure. While the causes may differ from individual to individual, most of the causes for the significantly higher rates of alcohol and drug abuse among Native American and Alaska Natives have to do with their culture. In fact, Native American and Alaska Native youth appear to have some of the highest rates of drug and alcohol abuse in the nation. The most apparent obstacles to helping Native Americans and Alaska Natives for drug addiction are cultural differences and language.
