Native Americans and Alaska Natives are known to have much increased rates of substance abuse and alcohol and drug addiction than other races, an a situation which has to be aknowledged for these cultures to survive. While the causes may differ from person to individual, most of the factors for the significantly higher rates of drug abuse among Native American and Alaska Natives are cultural ones. In fact, Native American and Alaska Native adolescents have some of the highest rates of drug and alcohol abuse in the country. The most obvious obstacles to treating Native Americans and Alaska Natives for addiction are cultural challenges and their language. This is why it is important that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in Nucla obtain substance abuse treatment in a drug and alcohol rehabilitation program that is culturally acceptable, but most importantly in a drug rehab program that takes into the account the need to offer drug treatment in their native tongue.
