Native Americans and Alaska Natives have much higher rates of abuse and alcohol and drug addiction than other ethnicities, an a situation which should be addressed for these people to survive. Although the reasons may differ from person to individual, most of the factors for the high rates of substance abuse among Native American and Alaska Natives have to do with their culture. First of all, Native American and Alaska Native youth appear to have some of the highest rates of alcohol and drug abuse in the nation. The most apparent barriers to helping Native Americans and Alaska Natives for drug and alcohol addiction are cultural differences and their language. Due to this it is crucial that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in Lake Hughes receive substance abuse treatment in a drug rehabilitation center that is culturally acceptable, but more importantly in a drug rehab that understand the need to provide drug rehab in their native tongue.
