Native Americans and Alaska Natives are known to have significantly very high rates of alcohol and drug abuse and alcohol and drug addiction than other ethnicities, an an issue which must be aknowledged for these people to survive. While the things which trigger substance abuse may differ from individual to individual, most of the factors for the significantly higher rates of drug abuse amongst Native American and Alaska Natives related to their culture. In fact, Native American and Alaska Native youth have some of the highest rates of drug and alcohol abuse in the U.S.. The most obvious hurdles to treating Native Americans and Alaska Natives for drug and alcohol addiction are cultural ones and their language. Due to this it is important that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in Kodiak receive treatment services in a drug rehab center that is culturally acceptable, but more importantly in a drug rehab program that considers the need to supply drug rehabilitation in their language.
