Rehabbing individuals who are addicted to drugs and/or alcohol and have ended up in the criminal justice system has proven effective in eliminating repeat drug related offenses for individuals that do receive treatment. For criminal justice clients in Indiana who do agree to take part in treatment in alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs, even against one's will as is often ordered by the court, these persons have a significantly better opportunity of handling the root of the problem so that they can stay off of drugs and off of negative influences and [[[committing drug related criminal acts. The costs to the criminal justice system related to these drug related criminal offenses is also affected positively when criminal justice clients become helped in drug and alcohol treatment programs in Indiana in lieu of incarceration or other penalties.
