Native Americans and Alaska Natives are known to have much very high rates of abuse and drug addiction than other ethnicities, an a circumstance which should be aknowledged for these cultures to endure. While the reasons may differ from person to individual, many of the reasons for the significantly higher rates of substance abuse amongst Native American and Alaska Natives have to do with their culture. First of all, Native American and Alaska Native adolescents appear to have some of the highest rates of drug and alcohol abuse in the U.S.. The most obvious hurdles to treating Native Americans and Alaska Natives for drug addiction are cultural ones and language. Due to this it is crucial that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in Indian Head obtain rehab treatment in an alcohol and drug treatment center that is culturally acceptable, and most importantly in a drug rehab program that considers the need to offer drug rehabilitation in their native tongue.
