Native Americans and Alaska Natives are known to have significantly higher rates of drug abuse and drug addiction than other races, an an issue which has to be aknowledged for these people to survive. While the things which trigger substance abuse may vary from person to individual, many of the reasons for the higher rates of substance abuse among Native American and Alaska Natives are cultural ones. First of all, Native American and Alaska Native youth have some of the highest rates of alcohol and drug abuse in the nation. The most evident obstacles to treating Native Americans and Alaska Natives for drug and alcohol addiction are cultural challenges and their language. Due to this it is important that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in Flat Rock, Michigan obtain substance abuse treatment in a drug and alcohol rehab program that is culturally acceptable, and more importantly in a drug rehab that understand the need to provide drug rehabilitation in their language.
