Native Americans and Alaska Natives have much higher rates of substance abuse and addiction than other ethnicities, an an issue which should be aknowledged for these people to endure. Although the reasons may vary from person to individual, most of the causes for the significantly higher rates of drug abuse amongst Native American and Alaska Natives have to do with their culture. In fact, Native American and Alaska Native adolescents have some of the highest rates of drug and alcohol abuse in the nation. The most obvious hurdles to helping Native Americans and Alaska Natives for drug addiction are cultural challenges and language. Due to this it is important that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in El Centro obtain substance abuse treatment in a drug and alcohol treatment center that is culturally acceptable, and more importantly in a drug rehab that understand the need to supply drug rehabilitation in their native tongue.
