Native Americans and Alaska Natives are known to have much higher rates of drug abuse and addiction than other races, an an issue which has to be aknowledged for these people to survive. While the things which trigger substance abuse may differ from individual to individual, many of the factors for the high rates of drug abuse amongst Native American and Alaska Natives have to do with their culture. In fact, Native American and Alaska Native adolescents have some of the highest rates of alcohol and drug abuse in the nation. The most obvious hurdles to helping Native Americans and Alaska Natives for substance abuse are cultural challenges and language. This is why it is important that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in Deer River receive rehab treatment in an alcohol and drug treatment program that is understanding of their culture, but most importantly in one that considers the need to supply drug rehab in their native tongue.
