Native Americans and Alaska Natives are known to have considerably higher rates of substance abuse and alcohol and drug addiction than other ethnicities, an a circumstance which must be resolved for these people to survive. Although the things which trigger substance abuse may vary from person to individual, the majority of of the reasons for the higher rates of drug abuse amongst Native American and Alaska Natives are cultural ones. In fact, Native American and Alaska Native adolescents have some of the highest rates of alcohol and drug abuse in the country. The most evident obstacles to helping Native Americans and Alaska Natives for drug and alcohol addiction are cultural differences and their language. For this reason it is vital that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in Dearborn obtain substance abuse treatment in an alcohol and drug treatment program that is culturally acceptable, but most importantly in a drug rehab program that considers the need to supply alcohol and drug rehab in their language.
