Native Americans and Alaska Natives have much very high rates of substance abuse and alcohol and drug addiction than other ethnicities, an a situation which has to be addressed for these cultures to survive. While the causes may differ from person to individual, the majority of of the reasons for the high rates of drug abuse among Native American and Alaska Natives are cultural ones.
